Hotels Glasgow

Radisson Blu Hotel, Glasgow

301 Argyle St, Glasgow G2 8DL, UK – 0141 204 3333

Sorry but not a 4star hotel in my book!! Too.. very small with hardly any storage space. However staff were excellent. Ordering taxis was no problem. Breakfast was pretty good. A choice off the menu or a buffet. Excellent fruit salad. I would expect more from an expensive hotel!!!

I'm a difficult hotel customer, I need early gym access, I need somewhere to store foods for my allergies, I need a good standard. I spend most weeks in hotels and I was utterly taken aback by this hotel. On arrival reception was chatty, he made me feel welcome, asked if there was anything I needed, gave advice and explained the areas of the hotel. Following the room was modern, fresh, had everything I needed, the only slight changes I would make would be the ability to see a mirror sitting down. No hotel has a mirror near light but most you can see in the mirror while you sit at the desk. Also the hairdryer is very much like a travel hair dryer. Over that, perfect. Has a full length mirror, it's clean, it has all the usual kettle, iron and facilities, the staff dealt with a fridge issue quickly and really did go over and above, dealt with Nicola and olive (I think) both super helpful and speedy to find ways to work around the challenge while they fixed it. The customer service was far higher than expected. Yes there was a problem where frustration usually builds but the staffs ability to problem solve made the problem a positive. I did not expect to like this hotel.this much but I think now I will use it as my base here. Thanks to the staff and for anyone considering hotels it's a good choice.

Jurys Inn Glasgow

80 Jamaica St, Glasgow G1 4QG, UK – 0141 314 4800

Our stay was a mix of good with below average. The rooms have comfortable beds, but weirdly in a room that can sleep 3 people, there is only 1 outlet for phones/alarms. The staff were also attempting to be helpful, but we had to ask them the same question 5 times before they even answered it without some "yes, but..." Statement. Not our first time having a below average experience at Jury's, but sometimes they offer a good deal on a room and so you put up with their shortcomings.

Big modern hotel close to river, and 10 minutes from Central Station. Ground floor has bar & restaurant etc., then about eleven floors of rooms. Room at front may suffer from street noise at late or early hours (buses start about 6am). Back rooms face onto railway station, so could be noise there too. There are a few rooms facing the river. Staff were helpful, but we found a few cases of carelessness in service quality. Good hotel for a short visit if you have the budget.

Hilton Glasgow

1 William St, Glasgow G3 8HT, UK – 0141 204 5555

Clean hotel, reasonable exec lounge and a very nice breakfast (not any more). Staff are great. Now Diamond members are charged for full breakfast. The Exec lounge is the option now. Very limited choice. I will be staying elsewhere

Great hotel and very quiet. I stayed here for work for one night. It was a nice hotel and bed was firm and comfortable. There's coffee in the room and a mini bar. The staff are helpful and there's a bar and restaurant in the lobby. The hotel is about a 10 minute but walk to the city centre (or taxi for £6). The internet was fast and the bathroom was spacious. Great value and very clean. offers competitive rates for any type of hotel, from small independent hotels to a five star luxury ones. The site is available in 24 languages and offers over 71000 hotels in 71 countries. Could be useful for you. There are of course several such sites.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Glasgow Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Drum & Monkey

91 St Vincent St, Glasgow G2 5TF, UK – 0141 221 6636

Best pub in Glasgow, great food, best service, these guys behind the bar are fast, very friendly and perfect in service. I was there on my birthday and I had again a very nice experience. This is now the third time we went there and still a great and amazing experience, be fast with the order after the gong ;-) It is worth a visit!

This I can say, without equivocation, is one of the most charming establishments that the Cask Marque Ale Trail has led me to. Formerly a bank, this lovely old baroque building, serving unquestionably perfect ale, quite justifiably earns it's CMAT certificate. The staff member serving me, knowledgeable both of the ales they serve and of the significance of Cask Marque, offered me unasked a series of tasters. Excellently done and the highest possible 'Rate this Pub' was given. Yes it is a city centre pub, but it doesn't have that 'used' could do with some TLC, well worn look, that so many city pubs have. A credit to the industry.

The Bay Horse

73 Bath St, Glasgow G2 2DH, UK

Blackfriars Bar

36 Bell St, Glasgow G1 1LG, UK – 0141 552 5924

I love this place. Always busy, always a good atmosphere. Situated right in the middle of the Merchants City to the east of Glasgow City Center. The entire area is full of bars and restaurants teeming with life and activity at all times of the day. They have a great selection of beers, spirits etc... and always have a good choice of guest real ales on tap. I have not tried to food however from what i have seen it looks OK. Prices are standard for the Merchants City are of Glasgow, not to expensive but not cheap either. A fair amount of seats etc inside however any time i have been in it has been standing room only. There is a small beer garden/smoking area out the front where you can take your beer as long as you sit at one of the tables. Being in Merchants City it is 15-20 min walk from Central Train Station or Buchannan st Bus Station. There are car parks near by however there is not a lot of space and depending on where you park you can end up paying through the nose for it. Best to take public transport or walk from the center of town. The only downside i can think of is that the Gents toilet is tiny. Other than that, it is a great pub. Well worth a visit.

This is a wonderful spooky bar. Cobwebs, skeletons the lot. It is a really great place to go for a drink and soak up the atmosphere. The barmaid is a goth which is perfect. Visit the toilets downstairs

No problem parking on the streets outside...even in a van. Around the corner is a street with good bars and restaurants which i used each night.Just about to call them up to book again for another stay. Don't be put off by the views below!

Glasgow Guest House

56 Dumbreck Rd, Glasgow G41 5NP, UK – 0141 427 0129

Honestly one of the most welcoming places I have ever stayed. John and his team are just fantastic, and really care which makes such a difference. There is a kitchen you have use of for light meals as well as a communal lounge area which is great when you are staying for a few days and don't want to be confined to your room. There is plenty of parking around the back of the guest house and the House for an Art Lover is just up the road. Highly recommend. Book in confidence.

Beautiful house, lovely rooms situated in a great area. John is enthusiastic and welcoming he has loads of suggestions of things to do and see around Glasgow. The breakfast was fab and james serving it had great craic! Would definitely stay here again 10/10 Thanks :)

15 Woodside Pl, Glasgow G3 7QL, UK – 0141 332 1263

What a lovely stay we had at 15Glasgow. Lorraine made us feel at home, providing us with super comfortable and attractive rooms, a lovely sitting area for chilling out after a day of walking around Glasgow, and delicious, hot breakfasts in our rooms each day. The location of 15Glasgow is perfect for exploring the art museums in the West End of Glasgow, dining (we loved your recommendation of the Ox and Finch!), and catching the Hop On and Off bus for touring the city. We would love to return.

Excellent, very comfortable and spacious rooms, all themed to a very high standard. Quiet location, within 20 minutes walk of centre and 10 mins from Kelvingrove Gallery, good restaurants within 5 to 10 minutes walk. Very restful, excellent breakfast served in room, nicely cooked. Owner very helpful and approachable. Would definitely stay again!

We run an Airbnb bed and breakfast down in Devon (house below) - and we have stayed in Airbnb accommodation all over the place. You can find the wonderful little gems with totally committed hosts and really frightful places which you put down to experience! You absolutely have to read the details of each listing - and read the reviews! Basically use Airbnb wherever we go - but we do do our homework!

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!
