Cyclestreets.net is a brilliant little website for bicyclists. Just enter where you are and where you want to go and it will take you a proper cyclists route, tell you the distance, how quiet or otherwiseit will be and how many calories you will burn completing it.
This is extraordinary. You can actually choose a route to avoid unnecessary hills. Excellent for the part-time cyclist!

Super friendly and helpful staff, backed up by good service. Recommended.

Willy Bain's Bicycle Repairs

359 Pollokshaws Rd, Glasgow G41 1QT, UK – 0141 423 9010

I had broken my bike chain the day before so stopped by to ask when Willy could have a look. I was told to pick up the bike and bring it over. He fitted a new chain and checked my gears (which had always been sticky) straight away and pretty inexpensively. Couldnae recommended more!

Very professional service, reasonable value, not the quickest turnaround because of its popularity but of course you get notified of this up front. Is where I would go for 100% confidence, such as for a competition bike.

Bike for Good

65 Haugh Rd, Glasgow G3 8TX, UK – 0141 248 5409

The mechanics are the stars here. At Fix Your Own Bike they will get you through thick and thin like a team of A&E staff. Blinding value as a service both pocket wise and educationally. But really the sole basis of its claim to be a social amenity. Otherwise just another trendy-pricey bike shop albeit trading in second hand-only built bikes and in a subsidized huge space and which keeps changing its name - irritatingly.

Excellent mini-service whilst doing Lands End to John O Groats. Cannot recommend enough. Thank you for tightening my spokes, and making sure my bike was OK :) :) :) :) We got to John O Groats :D

Cycle Hire

Billy Bilsland Cycles

176 Saltmarket, Glasgow G1 5LA, UK – 0141 552 0841

Brilliant place. Genuinely friendly and helpful staff who are all very knowledgeable and passionate about bikes. Bought two bikes from them and one for my daughter over the last few years. Quality bikes and proper after sales service. I'm always happy to return for any subsequent services, parts etc. because I know it's going to be the real deal. Always made welcome and treated like a valued customer by people who actually care....something of a rarity, in these days of big faceless chainstores and online shopping. Oh aye, the banter is quite good too!

What a great bike shop. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. If I’m honest I decided to buy the bike for my son based on the level of service provided and the fact kids bikes come with lifetime free servicing!!!

Cyclelane

193 Clarkston Rd, Glasgow G44 3BS, UK – 0141 637 2439

Cyclelane were quick to repair and fitted parts well, but were far too keen to up-sell on new parts. I took two bikes in for repair, a racing bike and a mountain bike. I had ridden 1900 miles, on the racing bike, over 8 months (from new bike) so the chain needed replacing and I was getting noise from the rear wheel. Cyclelane mechanics told me that I "needed" to replace the cassette. I have subsequently learned that I should be getting 4K - 4.5K miles out of the cassette, especially if I look after it, which I do. They didn't spot the bent spoke, which was the solution to the noise issue (I did ask them to look at that issue). With the mountain bike I was told a new wheel was needed, but it turned out to be the freehub was worn, which is a fraction of the cost of a wheel. They do have a good range of cycle accessories, which tend to be more expensive than on-line, but you have the convenience of buying straight away. I have shoppeed there before and I would shop again, but will be taking repairs elsewhere from now on.

Excellent tradional bike shop, good service, worth traveling to.

South West Community Cycles

2092 Pollokshaws Rd, Glasgow G43 1AT, UK – 0141 632 7155

Honest, affordable and down to earth. Won't tell you your bike needs things it doesn't.

Great little shop. Had my bike serviced here a couple of years ago and they did a great job. I also suffered a puncture this morning in Pollok park. Walked to the shop and they opened before they were supposed to, fixed it there and then even though I had no money on me to pay so I could cycle home. That is fantastic service!
